Leaving MacArthur Park
In the recent publicity about the move by our association from the MacArthur Park area, some significant facts were lost, (Metro, Aug. 28).
The 10,000-member Los Angeles County Medical Assn., resident in the Wilshire-Westlake area for 58 years, has been considering for some time the feasibility of moving our headquarters. Our present site is not satisfactory for two reasons: Our buildings are deteriorating, with a fix-up price of $3 million to $4 million, and the traffic congestion, drug use, crime and general deterioration of the neighborhood.
But, in the meantime, we will continue to support the neighborhood improvement groups formed by Councilwoman Gloria Molina, who has labored long and hard to improve conditions; we will continue to support the Los Angeles Police Department whose Rampart Division officers have done an exemplary job; we will continue to appeal to public policy-makers to put more public works and enforcement resources in the area.
