THE SIDELINES : Ex-King Signs With Islanders

NEW YORK — Defenseman Ken Baumgartner has signed a multiyear contract with the New York Islanders, general manager Bill Torrey said today.
Baumgartner played in 53 games for the Islanders last season, recording five assists and 194 penalty minutes.
The Islanders acquired Baumgartner and center Hubie McDonough from the Kings in November in exchange for Mikko Makela.
