FAX HOAX: The alert came via fax. President Ford’s pardon of Richard M. Nixon had been removed from its display case at the Richard Nixon Library in Yorba Linda. News organizations immediately called police to check out the report. . . . But John H. Taylor, the library’s executive director, knew instantly that the communique was a hoax. The library does not have Nixon’s pardon. After examining the fax, which had Gerald R. Ford’s middle initial wrong, Taylor said: “It is a patent piece of fakery.”
