A motorist who was not wearing a seat belt was killed when his car crashed on Interstate 8 and he was thrown from the vehicle.
The victim’s name was not released pending notification of his relatives. He was 27 and a resident of San Diego.
The accident occurred at 1:50 a.m. Sunday in the west lane of I-8 about two miles west of Crestwood Summit in East County, a California Highway Patrol spokeswoman said.
The driver, who was alone, apparently fell asleep and the car drifted into the highway’s center divider, the spokeswoman said. The driver awoke, over-corrected and crossed back across the freeway, where the car went up an embankment and rolled several times.
The man was dead at the scene. No other vehicles were involved.
