WORLD : French-African Teen-Agers Riot

LYON, France — Teen-age rioters in Lyon, France’s second-largest city, burned cars and attacked police in a third night of protest violence in a predominantly North African-populated suburb, witnesses said today.
The overnight clashes in the Vaulx-en-Velin neighborhood were sparked by the death of a passenger who fell from a motorcycle that collided with a police car Saturday.
Blaming police, teen-agers of North African origin pushed blazing cars at riot control buses, and dozens of cars and roadside shelters were destroyed.
After weekend clashes, calm had returned to the suburb Monday, but crowds took to the streets again overnight after the man who drove the motorcycle accused police of having caused the accident. Police eventually cleared the streets of the suburb this morning by charging at the rioters.
