Two Norwalk youths arrested in two supermarket robberies were being investigated Friday for possible roles in a Downey shoot-out earlier this week that left two police officers wounded, authorities said.
The youths, 16 and 17, are suspected of using an AK-47 assault rifle in stealing about $3,500 from the two supermarkets in Corona Thursday night, Detective Alex Marmolejo said.
Police said that in the Downey robbery, the suspects held their victims at gunpoint in much the same way.
Downey Police Capt. Dennis Chelstrom said investigators would examine evidence from the Corona robberies to determine if the youths were involved in Tuesday’s Downey shooting. The youths were being held at Riverside Juvenile Hall, Marmolejo said.
