UC San Diego, ranked No. 2 in the NCAA’s Division III, got a bit of a scare from The Master’s College, before winning, 15-8, 15-9, 14-16, 2-15, 15-7, in La Jolla.
Dana Simone led the Tritons (24-6) with 14 kills. Teammate Elizabeth Tan added 11 kills. The Master’s fell to 17-15.
MEN’S SOCCER
The University of San Diego, ranked 17th in the nation, cruised to its fifth victory in a row, 3-1, over Cal Poly San Luis Obispo at USD.
Leo Ronces scored his sixth goal of the season, Alex Streicek his third and Phillip Button his fifth as the Toreros (11-1-4) built a 3-0 first-half lead. Tim Hire scored on a second-half corner kick for Cal Poly San Luis Obispo (8-5-4).
WOMEN’S SOCCER
Cheryl Parker scored 1 minute 15 seconds into overtime, giving UC San Diego a 1-0 victory over visiting UC Irvine (5-9-2). Karin Lindsay got the assist for the Tritons, ranked No. 3 in Division III. It was the 10th shutout of the season for UCSD (11-2-1).
