SYDNEY, Australia — ld Boxing Council light-heavyweight champion Dennis Andries will defend his title against Guy Waters of Australia in Melbourne in December, promoter Bill Mordey announced today.
Andries, a Briton based in Detroit, regained the title when he stopped Jeff Harding of Australia in Melbourne in July. He previously held the title in 1986 and 1989.
Andries defended the title last week with a fourth-round knockout of Sergio Merani of Argentina.
Waters, who has a 13-1-1 record and holds the Commonwealth title, is the No. 1 contender for Andries’ championship.
Mordey said he hoped the bout could be held at the National Tennis Center on Dec. 9.
