PHILADELPHIA — Blaming fuel prices in part, Midway Airlines announced today that it will close its hub operations in Philadelphia and concentrate on its Chicago hub.
The cutback includes the sale of 11 gates at the Philadelphia airport to USAir for about $68 million. The deal includes routes to Toronto and Montreal as well as a cargo building, vehicle maintenance building and related operations space. The sale is subject to federal government approval.
Midway will still serve Philadelphia but with connector flights to Chicago, according to David R. Hinson, chairman and chief executive officer.
