Jordan Resigns as San Francisco Police Chief

SAN FRANCISCO — Chief of Police Frank Jordan has resigned after 33 years on the force, saying he is leaving in one month to pursue other “options.”
He said he is “not looking in the direction” of a mayoral bid but refused to rule out a political future.
Jordan, 55, who announced his decision at a Hall of Justice news conference Thursday, was chief for five years and said he wanted to end his career on a “high note.” Mayor Art Agnos had been notified and asked him to stay on, the chief said.
Jordan said he was “looking at four or five positions” and mentioned the possibility of going into corporate security.
Under Jordan, the department drew criticism for tough crowd control tactics.
Early this year, after more than a year of controversy, Jordan announced what he termed “one of the most far-reaching and comprehensive reorganizations of the Police Department in the city’s history.’
The move was designed to improve accountability and discipline throughout the force, he said.
