SAILING : Hot Rum Is Smooth on Water

Al Castillon of King Harbor Yacht Club sailed his CF 33 Hot Rum to first place in all three races of Class C Saturday and Sunday to claim the Champion of Champions trophy at Marina del Rey.
The event, co-sponsored by the Assn. of Santa Monica Bay Yacht Clubs and West Marine Products, featured 51 boats in five handicap classes.
Other class winners: A--The Dick Schmidt/Gwen Gordon Schock 35 Outlier, from California YC (2-2-1); B--Bob Dallas’ Olson 30 Phantom II, King Harbor YC (4-1-1); D-Ken and Yumio Dornberg’s Martin 242 Cookie Monster, South Bay Yacht Racing Club (2-1-1); E-the Steve Garland/Steve Kissick Peterson 25 Plain Jane, King Harbor (1-2-1).
An all-female crew aboard Blade Runner (2-2-2), led by Janet Klose and Gillian Kerr, missed winning Class B by a half-point. Cookie Monster beat Craig Yandow’s Blarney (1-2-2) by four seconds in the last race to claim Class D.
