Pan Am Asks Route Transfer Approval: Pan American World Airways and United Airlines asked the Department of Transportation to approve transfer of several of Pan Am’s transatlantic routes to United by Dec. 31. The carriers reached agreement Oct. 23 for United to acquire the routes to London and other cities. American Airlines subsequently announced that it would offer Pan Am more than United for the London routes.
