MISSION VIEJO — Laguna Hills High School scored 23 points in the first quarter and never looked back, rolling to a 61-28 victory over Laguna Beach Thursday night at Mission Viejo High School.
The victory assured Laguna Hills (7-1-1, 4-0 in league) of at least a tie for the Pacific Coast League championship.
Laguna Hills rolled up 486 total yards, led by Marwan Saba’s 146 yards rushing in 23 carries. Hawks’ quarterback Casey Sullivan completed eight of 12 passes for 177 yards and three touchdowns and ran for another.
Linebacker-running back Mark Bochenek scored on both defense and offense, returning an interception 17 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter and running 75 yards for a touchdown in the fourth on his first carry of the season.
“We didn’t set out to run up the score,” Laguna Hills Coach Steve Bresnahan said. “Laguna Beach’s offense kept coming back right at us.”
Laguna Beach’s passing game was productive, led by receiver Eric Fegraus’ nine catches for 187 yards and two touchdowns. Quarterback Morgan Lanchantin completed 19 of 31 passes for 284 yards and three touchdowns.
