In other league finals:
Century League--Santa Ana Valley hadn’t won a boys’ cross-country league championship since 1969, but the Falcons placed four runners in the top 10 at Yorba Regional Park to edge El Modena for the title.
Canyon, with freshmen Kim Nelson and Laura Flatauer placing first and third, won the girls’ varsity league championship with 36 points to 54 for Foothill.
Villa Park senior Danny Simon easily topped the boys’ field, covering the course in 15:03 to beat Santa Ana Valley’s Peter Reyes (15:12) and El Modena’s Austin Brent (15:13).
Reyes, a sophomore, was joined by teammates Juan Arvizu (fifth, 15:24), Jerry Gomez (seventh, 15:32) and Lucio Brito (eighth, 15:35) in the top 10.
“The kids were really up for this one,” Falcon Coach George Payan said. “We got a lot of support from the community, staff and students to back us up.”
Canyon’s girls’ team was aided by a fifth-place finish by senior Cathy Lee in 18:32. El Modena sophomore Kristina Dahlberg finished second to Nelson in 18:14, and sophomore Allison Myers of Foothill finished fourth in 18:17.
