Garden Grove League--Linh Le of Los Amigos became the first league runner to break the 15-minute mark on the three-mile course at Mile Square Park in Fountain Valley, but Santiago’s boys and girls swept to league titles.
Le took the lead 200 yards into the race and finished in 14:50, breaking his league mark of 15:06 set two weeks ago in a dual meet against Bolsa Grande on the same course. Santiago won the team championship with 32 points, placing five runners among the top 10.
“I thought I wouldn’t do that well with the wind (9 m.p.h.), but it was a breeze,” Le said. “This was my last race here, and I wanted to set the league record. All the people that came out here were my motivation.”
Santiago’s girls’ team had six finishers among the top 10 and easily won the league title with 33 points. Courtney Grace of Garden Grove was the winner, followed closely by Liticia Perez of Santiago.
