Ventura : Psychiatric Patient Arrested With Gun
- Share via
A patient upset at the prospect of being admitted to a Ventura psychiatric hospital pulled a semiautomatic pistol on county workers and fired a round into the air before being arrested at gunpoint, Ventura police said.
Daniel Walter Carroll, 24, was being transferred from an Oxnard board-and-care home for mental health patients to Vista Del Mar Psychiatric Hospital because of unruliness toward the home’s 57 other residents, police said.
When Carroll and two county employees accompanying him arrived at the hospital at 3:23 p.m., Carroll allegedly pulled a .25-caliber handgun and held off several mental health technicians by firing into the air and then pointing the gun at them. Police officers arrested him at gunpoint as he attempted to flee the hospital grounds.
Carroll was being held in County Jail on $5,332.50 bail late Friday on a charge of assault with a deadly weapon.
