In one of the most poignant days in racing history, the great filly Go For Wand lost her life. With one bad step, what appeared to be the race of the year became another sickening reminder of the fragility of the modern thoroughbred racehorse.
Go For Wand is dead not because of a dangerous track surface. She simply had a bigger heart than her legs could carry.
