THE SOUND OF MUSIC: If you’re not Sting, you probably can’t afford to fly down to the Brazilian rain forest to check up on its rapidly vanishing jungle habitat. So Rykodisc is providing the next best thing. The adventuresome record label has just released a quartet of 60-minute CDs that capture the aural splendor of the Amazon rain forests. Using recordings collected in two separate jungle sites by biological anthropologist Ruth Happel, the CDs offer the sound of pre-dawn frog calls, gentle rainfall, bird choruses and (our fave) the grunts of feeding forest pigs. Rykodisc is donating a portion of its profits to the Brazilian Chapter of the Nature Conservancy. . . . And club-hoppers take note: Downtown L.A. gets a new club Saturday with the opening of God Save the Queen, which will feature three bands a night, a video theater and a Chinese bar. Located at 912 S. San Pedro, the club’s opening-night lineup features Broken Homes, Commercial Suicide (fronted by ex-Kills for Thrills singer Gilby Clark) and Pygmy Love Circus.
