Artists, Organizations Receive Local Grants Totaling $368,000

LONG BEACH — The Public Corporation for the Arts, the city’s regional arts council, has announced the recipients of the city’s 1990-91 cultural arts grants. In addition to the four resident performing arts organizations--the Long Beach Ballet, the Civic Light Opera, the opera and the symphony--28 community arts organizations and eight individual artists received awards totaling $368,000.
Recipients and amounts received include:
Long Beach Ballet, $70,000; Long Beach Civic Light Opera, $50,000; Long Beach Opera, $66,000; Long Beach Symphony Orchestra, $70,000; Bard in the Yard, $3,000; Long Beach Author’s Festival, $2,500; Nova Concerts, $4,000; Assistance League of Long Beach, $1,500; Cambodian Art Preservation Group, $6,000; Long Beach Museum of Art Docent Council, $5,000; Academy of Arts and Music, $5,000; Wajeehah Theatrical Ensemble, $4,000; Queen’s Historical Society, $3,300; Cambodian Business Assn., $2,500; Long Beach Community Players, $4,500; South East Youth Symphony Orchestra, $3,000.
Others are: Center for Educational Application of Brain Hemisphere, $3,500; Long Beach Children’s Museum, $4,000; First Congregational Church, $3,000; Mozart Festival, $3,000; International City Theatre, $5,000; Long Beach Museum of Art Video Annex/VIDKIDCO, $6,000; Pacific Wind Ensemble, $3,500; Homeland Neighborhood Cultural Center, $3,000; Jewish Community Center, $3,000; University Art Museum, $4,000; Gay Men’s Chorus of Long Beach, $3,800; One in Long Beach, $1,150; Long Beach Bach Festival, $2,000; Long Beach Art Assn., $1,500; Music Teachers’ Assn. of California, $750; Long Beach Community Band, $500; Gregg Gottlieb, $3,000; Keith Williams, $3,000; Yinn Ponn, $3,000; Heather Green, $3,000; See Lee, $2,000; Christopher Roche, $2,000; Stuart Bender, $1,950, and Karena Massengill, $1,950.
