PELLA, Iowa — The productive rushing attack that enabled Redlands to win the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference this season was stymied by Central (Iowa) College Saturday in an NCAA Division III playoff game.
The Flying Dutchmen limited Redlands to 87 yards on the ground to gain a 24-14 victory.
Redlands (8-2) led, 7-0, in the first quarter when quarterback Brian Harmon, who completed 14 of 29 passes for 153 yards, connected with Kurt Bruich on a 14-yard touchdown pass play.
But Central (9-1) came back behind quarterback Shad Flynn, who completed 13 of 24 passes for 154 yards and connected with Rich Shulte on a 54-yard touchdown pass play that tied the score.
Kevin Sanger added a 31-yard field goal to give Central a 10-7 halftime lead and the Flying Dutchmen were never threatened.
