Irvine Valley 2, Bakersfield 1--Irvine Valley’s Piero Mendiola scored with 14 minutes remaining to break a 1-1 tie at Irvine Valley. Greg Daman scored in the first half for Irvine Valley (18-1-4).
Orange Coast 7, Southwestern 2 (OT)--Orange Coast, the defending state champions, scored six goals in overtime, including four by Andy Strouse, to defeat host Southwestern and advance to the second round next Saturday against the winner of the game between East Los Angeles and San Diego City. Strouse scored five goals in the game for the Pirates (15-3-3).
In the championship of the Rancho Santiago men’s basketball tournament:
Rancho Santiago 107, Chaffey 85--Brett Pagett scored 29 points and Corie Blount had 27 points and 13 rebounds for Rancho Santiago (3-0).
In the championship of the Golden West women’s basketball tournament:
Golden West 102, College of the Canyons 73--Tournament most valuable player Dawn Haag and nine points and 13 assists for the Rustlers.
