Limit on Private Shuttle Vans at LAX Is Extended

The Los Angeles City Board of Airport Commissioners agreed this week to extend a 1-year-old moratorium limiting the number of private shuttle vans operating at Los Angeles International Airport.
The moratorium was enacted after shuttle companies complained of chaos at pickup curbs and slashed profits as a result of a dramatic increase in the number of vans in recent years.
The board agreed to extend the moratorium to March to study permanent ways of limiting the van fleet, said Assistant City Atty. Breton Lobner.
The board also approved a series of regulations that will require all companies to submit to regular vehicle safety inspections, install two-way radios in all vehicles and end the practice of leasing vehicles to free-lance drivers.
