Ex-Joint Chiefs on Gulf Crisis
I nominate two former military chiefs, retired Adm. William Crowe and retired Air Force Gen. David Jones, for the Nobel Peace Prize. These men sent a clear message to President Bush that a Persian Gulf war would be devastating and may not be necessary and peace must be pursued (“Ex-Joint Chiefs Back Gulf Delay,” front page, Nov. 29).
President Bush finally woke up to the fact that responsible military men did not like an offensive buildup of 400,000 fighting personnel.
Hats of to Crowe and Jones for their straight talk that may get us to the bargaining table for a peaceful settlement in the gulf.
