Western Digital Sale to Poland Collapses: A spokesman for Irvine-based Western Digital said its tentative $5-million agreement to sell an aging semiconductor fabrication line from its Costa Mesa plant to Elwro, a state-owned Polish computer manufacturer, was vetoed by the Polish company’s workers council. Upon learning of the proposed deal in November, trade officials said they knew of no other instance in which a U.S. company agreed to ship an entire semiconductor production line to a firm in Eastern Europe. Western Digital said it will still try to sell the equipment.
