Hometown Heroine: Opera star Marian Anderson headed back to her native Philadelphia to attend Sunday’s dedication of St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children’s new pediatric sickle cell anemia clinic and research center. The hospital is naming the clinic after Anderson, 88, the first black diva of the Metropolitan Opera. On Tuesday, the Free Library of Philadelphia is opening an exhibition called “Marian Anderson: The Lady From South Philadelphia” that will feature photographs, memorabilia and some of her personal papers.
