PREP ROUNDUP : Sunny Hills Sets Up a 1-0 Soccer Victory
- Share via
When Sunny Hills High School boys’ soccer Coach Mike Schade drills his players on set plays, they may sometimes complain, but there was no griping after Monday’s 1-0 victory at Troy High School.
Jose Rosillo’s perfectly executed free kick from the top of the box with 37 minutes left in the game provided the difference as Sunny Hills (11-3-0, 4-0 in league) strengthened its grip on first place in the Freeway League. Troy fell to 6-5-2, 3-2.
With both teams lined up for the free kick, Rosillo circled around Troy’s right flank of defenders, took a touch pass from Enrico Pietrantonio and drilled a kick past goalkeeper Brian Logan.
“That was a great shot by Jose,” Schade said. “It’s nice when a set play works for you. That was the eighth goal we’ve scored off a set play this year.”
Sunny Hills’ defense stymied the Warriors, who were never able to penetrate for a clear shot.
“Their defense dominated the game,” Troy Coach Marc Smith said. “They cleared out and gave their offense opportunities.”
Logan’s six saves kept Troy in the game.
