At least one South Bay high school will become a CIF champion Saturday, when Torrance meets South Torrance in the Southern Section 3-A Division girls’ soccer final at 2 p.m. at Gahr High in Cerritos.
Top-seeded Torrance (25-1-1), which defeated South twice on its way to the Pioneer League title and once in nonleague play, has outscored four playoff opponents, 15-1.
The Tartars reached the final with a 3-0 victory Tuesday over Palos Verdes. Amy Robitzke ended a scoreless tie with a goal early in the second half, and goalie Jenny Halladay recorded her 21st shutout of the season. Jessica Reifer leads Torrance in season scoring.
South (15-8-2) has yet to allow a goal in the playoffs. The Spartans won Tuesday’s semifinal game on penalty kicks, 2-1, after playing second-seeded Arcadia to a scoreless tie. Prior to that, South had scored four goals in three playoff games.
