OXNARD : Troops Families Can Get Housing Aid
- Share via
The city of Oxnard’s Housing Authority Commission unanimously approved a program to make families of military personnel deployed in the Persian Gulf eligible for federally subsidized housing.
The program, which is subject to approval by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, would give priority to dependents of U.S. troops who supported the Gulf War, over other families applying for subsidies.
“They have done so much for us in the Gulf, I think we should do something for our soldiers right here,” said Councilman Manuel Lopez, one of seven Oxnard housing authority commissioners.
Oxnard Housing Director Sal Gonzales said U.S. troops involved in the Gulf War and the families will be placed at the top of the waiting list for federal housing aid, if the families meet the federal-income standards.
