Poway Delivers a Knockout Punch

Right when you were ready to count out Poway High School, the Titans delivered their own knockout punch.
Poway scored six runs in the fourth inning to overcome a five-run deficit and score a 10-5 victory over visiting San Marcos.
The victory gave Poway a 2-0 record in the Hilltop-Moose Tournament.
The fourth-inning uprising made a winner of pitcher Scott Tittrington, who got fifth-inning relief help from Nate Hilbig.
Poway’s offense was led by by Phil Portier, who had two doubles and three runs batted in. Teammate Miles Kelly had a solo home run in the sixth inning.
San Marcos dropped to 1-1.
In other Hilltop-Moose games:
Hilltop 4, Mission Bay 0--Jose Silva’s two-run single in the second inning was all Sean McGinnis needed en route to a three-hit shutout for Hilltop (1-0-1).
St. Augustine 4, Chula Vista 0--Jorge Inzunza pitched a three-hitter, struck out eight and walked one for Saints (1-1). Mike Bryant had two hits and two RBIs. Chula Vista is 0-2.
Granite Hills 12, Helix 1--Ryan O’Coyne was three for three with two RBIs and winning pitcher Tom Fordham (1-0) was two for three with three RBIs for Granite Hills (1-0-1). Helix fell to 1-1.
Escondido 8, Rancho Bernardo 6--Mike Frank had 12 strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings and Chris Ellis went three for four with three RBIs for Escondido (1-1). Rancho Bernardo fell to 0-2.
Crawford Tournament
University City 6, Morse 5--Winning pitcher John Cohen (1-0) was two for two with two RBIs, including the game-winner in the top of the sixth, for University City (2-0). Morse (0-2) came back with two runs in the bottom of the seventh but fell short.
West Hills 7, Crawford 2--John Hegg had two hits, a double and three RBIs, and Steve Godowala had three hits for West Hills (2-0). Crawford is 0-2.
La Jolla 12, Clairemont 3--John Zwanich had a three-run double for La Jolla (2-0). Clairemont is 0-2.
Mar Vista Tournament
Montgomery 11, Southwest 2--Southwest’s Junior Moran broke up Eduardo Duarte’s no-hitter in the fifth inning. Duarte and David Silvas combined for a three-hitter and struck out 13.
Monte Vista 7, Coronado 0--Mark Sabala pitched a three-hitter and Shawn Davidson had two RBIs for Monte Vista (2-0).
Mar Vista 8, Hoover 4--Mar Vista (1-1) scored six runs in the third inning and got a double and two RBIs from Ricky Quinones. Hoover is 0-2.
GMC Tournament
San Diego 16, Lincoln 4--Jacque Jones (1-0) struck out 10 and allowed only one hit in five innings. Chino Arreola had four RBIs for the Cavers (2-0), who scored 11 runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Francis Parker 6, La Jolla Country Day 2--The Lancers (1-1) scored four in the top of the seventh to make a winner of reliever Charles Pope. LJCD fell to 0-2.
Marian 12, Institute of Mexico 6--Winning pitcher Beto Martinez (1-0) helped his cause with a three-run homer to lead Marian (2-0) over the Insitute of Mexico (0-2).
