Spelling Sells to Lindner: TV producer Aaron Spelling sold his entire 32% stake in Spelling Entertainment Inc. to Charter Co. for $47 million in cash plus a 10-year, 10% note of $18.3 million. Spelling, 67, said he was selling out for estate planning purposes. Jacksonville, Fla.-based Charter is buying another 42% of Spelling Entertainment by acquiring all the shares held by Great American Communications Co. for an “equivalent” price paid for Aaron Spelling’s shares. Both GACC and Charter are controlled by Cincinnati investor Carl Lindner through his family-owned American Financial Corp. After the transaction, Charter will own 74% of Spelling Entertainment’s common stock.
