Feel the need to explore beyond your back yard?
Sea & Sage Audubon is sponsoring its second annual Bird-a-Thon April 13. Bird-watchers--in teams of four--will spend the day at various sites and will pledge a certain amount for each bird species sighted.
Other events offered that day are half-day field trips. Led by experienced birders, the walks will explore the coastal wildlife in the Bolsa Chica Wetlands Reserve in Huntington Beach and take an inland bird-watching route. Participants are asked to donate 25 cents for each bird species spotted.
Proceeds will go toward such Audubon programs as the Starr Ranch Audubon Wildlife Sanctuary, a 3,750-acre bird sanctuary in the foothills of the Santa Ana Mountains; the Bird of Prey Center in El Toro, the county’s only rehabilitation home for hawks, eagles and owls; the Laguna Canyon Conservancy and Pro Esteros, an organization that works to preserve estuaries and wetlands in Baja California.
