MAI to Lay Off About 400: MAI Systems Corp., a Tustin-based computer firm, said it will cut about 400 U.S. workers as part of a restructuring but declined to say when the layoffs would occur. Fred D. Anderson Jr., MAI president, said the reductions could require an extraordinary charge in the quarter ended March 31, but he did not elaborate. The job cuts would be the third major round of layoffs to hit MAI over the past two years after its unsuccessful attempt to take over Prime Computer.
