Senior Center, Literacy Council Get Funds

WHITTIER — The East Whittier Soroptimist Club has presented checks totaling $22,000 to the Hillcrest Senior Day Care Center and the Whittier Literacy Council.
The presentation was by Soroptimist President Jeanine Fitzpatrick and John White, winner of the club’s Man About Town fund-raising event last November. White earned that distinction by raising the most money among candidates contending for that title. Each “vote” translated into dollars and the two organizations were selected to share the proceeds.
Accepting the awards were Vivian Stout, director of the Hillcrest Senior Day Care Center, and Lee Owens, a member of the Whittier Literacy Council Auxiliary and founder of the Whittier Literacy Computer Lab.
The presentation was made at a luncheon meeting March 27 at the Friendly Hills Country Club.
