A referee overreacted when he ejected Pervis Ellison of the Washington Bullets from a game against the Portland Trail Blazers, the NBA acknowledged, and said it is disciplining the official.
Steve Javie banished Ellison in the fourth quarter, when he also ejected Bullet guard Darrell Walker and Coach Wes Unseld. He also called four technical fouls against the Bullets in less than two minutes. The NBA said its discipline against Javie involved only his ejection of Ellison. It did not say what the action was.
A review of a game tape showed Ellison tossing the ball to official Bill Spooner after being called for a foul. Javie ran from midcourt and slapped Ellison with a technical. When he protested, he was ejected.
