OJAI : Water Company Delays Rationing
Ojai customers of Southern California Water Co. were relieved Thursday to hear that they do not face water rationing yet.
About a dozen people attended an evening workshop that the company held in Ojai to explain its new conservation and rationing program.
The program calls for the first phase of mandatory conservation to begin May 1, with orders to stop all non-essential water use such as hosing driveways and watering lawns between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. until Oct. 31.
“The rates will remain the same, and we’re not going to implement the water-rationing plan in Ojai right away like we are in our other areas,” district Supervisor Frank Bennett said.
The San Dimas-based company has ordered six of its other service areas in Southern California, including Simi Valley, to reduce water consumption by 20% in May and possibly up to 30% by late summer.
