No-Hitter, 19 Whiffs for Taylor

Midway Baptist’s Jon Taylor pitched a no-hitter against Lutheran High School Friday and came within two strikeouts of the section record.
Taylor (4-1) struck out 19 of a possible 21 for a seven-inning game as Midway Baptist scored a 4-1 1-A Citrus League victory. He threw 82 pitches, 43 strikes, and walked two. Only three strikeouts were on called third strikes.
The record for strikeouts in a game is 21, set by Victory Christian’s Terry O’Dell in 1987. Two other pitchers have struck out 19.
Taylor walked the leadoff batter but immediately picked him off first base. The only other out was an easy ground ball to second base with two outs in the fourth inning.
Matt Fiezer went three for three with a triple and two RBIs.
Midway Baptist is 7-3, 2-1, Lutheran 2-7, 1-2.
