Minnesota Viking kicker Donald Igwebuike was portrayed by prosecutors in Tampa, Fla., as a cunning liar about his alleged involvement in a scheme to smuggle $1-million worth of heroin from his native Nigeria to the United States. But Igwebuike, 32, took the stand for a second day to deny the charges. “I have never been involved in any heroin deal and I would never ask someone else to participate in something like that,” he testified. The jury deliberated for 2 1/2 hours before recessing for the weekend in the two-week-long trial before U.S. District Judge Elizabeth Kovachevich. If convicted of federal charges of conspiracy and heroin importation, Igwebuike could face up to 120 years in prison and $6 million in fines.
