World IN BRIEF : GERMANY : Breuel Named Head of Treuhand Agency

Birgit Breuel, 53, was named the new president of Treuhand, the agency in charge of privatizing, rescuing or winding up factories and businesses in eastern Germany. She succeeds Detlev Rohwedder, who was slain by leftist guerrillas on April 1. Breuel, a member of Chancellor Helmut Kohl’s Christian Democratic Union, was economics minister and later finance minister of western Germany’s Lower Saxony state.
