Proper Recognition for ‘Roots’ Composer
“Award for Roots Author” (April 1) said Quincy Jones “composed the theme to the ‘Roots’ mini-series.”
In actuality, Quincy Jones wrote part of one episode of (the music for) “Roots.” His contribution did not include the main theme. I was brought in to finish that episode, to write the main theme of the series and to finish all the other episodes. I subsequently wrote all the music for “Roots: The Next Generation,” “Roots: One Year Later” and “Roots: The Gift.”
I’m proud of my work as a composer. Proper recognition is part of that pride.
