Joel’s Day in Court: Singer Billy Joel’s $90-million lawsuit against his former manager and the accounting firm of Berman Shaffet & Schain took a major step forward Tuesday when a New York appellate court refused to protect the accounting firm from liability for fraud. Joel claims the firm aided Frank Weber, his former brother-in-law and one-time manager, in allegedly defrauding him of more than $30 million. The ruling overturns a lower court decision that the accounting firm couldn’t be held liable. Joel has already won $2 million in damages from Weber.
