HIGH SCHOOL PLAYOFFS : Crescenta Valley Reaches Softball Semifinals, 4-1

Kristin Eagle singled in J.J. Cannon in the top of the eighth inning to break a scoreless tie and lift Crescenta Valley High to a 4-1 victory over Santa Monica in a Southern Section 4-A Division quarterfinal softball playoff game at Santa Monica.

Amy Colburn doubled to drive in two more runs, then came home on a fielding error for the fourth run.

Stacy Atwood (23-2) threw a one-hitter, striking out 11 for Crescenta Valley (26-2).

In other Southern Section softball playoff games:

La Reina 11, Bishop Union 2--Valerie Serpico had two hits and two RBIs to lead La Reina (18-5) in a second-round 1-A Division game at La Reina.

Michelle St. Pierre (14-1) allowed three hits after carrying a perfect game into the seventh inning.

The two runs La Reina allowed in the inning broke a streak of 53 consecutive scoreless innings and 77 innings without an earned run.

Santa Paula 8, St. Matthias 0--Santa Paula’s Arlene Sanchez (8-4) struck out six, gave up two hits and allowed only one runner to reach second base in a second-round 1-A game.

Moorpark 11, Notre Dame Academy 8--Karen Richter had two hits, including a two-run home run, and drove in three runs as Moorpark (16-7) overcame a 7-1 deficit in a second-round 1-A game at Moorpark.

TENNIS

Beverly Hills 9, Thousand Oaks 9 (Beverly Hills advances on total games won, 76-74)--Richard Murray and Jerry Yu won two of three doubles matches, and Gary Potter and Sean McKenna won two of three singles matches for visiting Thousand Oaks (18-5) but it wasn’t enough to stop Beverly Hills in a Southern Section 4-A Division quarterfinal.

Eagle Rock 19 1/2, Sherman Oaks CES 10--Eagle Rock advanced to the City Section 3-A Division final with a win in Studio City.

Marshall 23 1/2, Van Nuys 6--Marshall will meet Eagle Rock in the championship match after sweeping 16 singles matches from Van Nuys at the Racquet Centre.
