“City of Angels,” winner of six Tony Awards--including Best Musical--will open the 1991-92 Broadway season of the Orange County Performing Arts Center.
The announcement was made Thursday by Center president Thomas R. Kendrick in statement read at a Center fund-raising party in Dana Point hosted by developer and Center board member Kathryn G. Thompson. Kendrick’s statement said he and his wife, Center general manager Judith Morr, were en route to New York to look at other Broadway shows for consideration.
According to a Center spokesman, “City of Angels” is expected to be mounted in late fall. No other 1991-92 titles are known. “City of Angels,” a spoof of 1940s hard-boiled detective novels and film noir, opened on Broadway in December, 1989, and will play the Shubert Theatre in Los Angeles beginning June 12.
