Bribery Charges: Federal savings and loan regulators said Friday that the FBI has arrested a Dana Point man on charges of attempting to bribe federal regulators. John Irvin Barfield, 61, also known as John Irvine, was arrested in San Diego on Monday. He is being held in jail in lieu of $150,000 bail, while federal authorities seek to extradite him to Arizona. Barfield is accused of offering $100,000 to employees of the Resolution Trust Corp. in Tucson, Ariz., to guarantee his purchase of real estate assets from the former Pima Savings & Loan, a failed Tucson thrift that the federal government is liquidating.
