Chris Perry shot a five-under-par 65 to take the lead Friday after two rounds of the Colonial tournament at Ft. Worth.
Perry’s 36-hole total of 131 is one shot ahead of Wayne Levi, Stan Utley, Gene Sauers and Keith Clearwater.
Levi, a four-time winner last year, had a 65 that, he said, “could have been very, very low.”
Sauers had 66 in the muggy heat that hung over the Colonial Country Club. Clearwater and Utley each shot 64.
Mark Calcavecchia, seeking his first victory since the 1989 British Open, scrambled to a 68 and was at 133.
Jim Ferree, a winner only twice in a professional career that began in 1956, birdied three of his final four holes for a five-under-par 67 and the first-round lead of the Bell Atlantic senior tournament at Malvern, Pa.
Deb Richard had seven birdies on the way to a 67 and a three-shot lead in the second round of the LPGA Corning Classic at Corning, N.Y.
