SOUTHERN SECTION 1-A BASEBALL PLAYOFFS : Orange Lutheran Gets Help From Hendren
- Share via
Winning pitcher Matt Hendren helped his own cause by hitting two doubles, scoring a run and driving in a run as Orange Lutheran defeated Coast Union in a Southern Section 1-A quarterfinal game Friday at Coast Union High School in Cambria.
Hendren pitched a five-hitter, striking out seven and walking two for Orange Lutheran (18-8), which had six doubles. The Lancers will play Crossroads in a semifinal game Tuesday.
Lutheran scored first on two errors in the first inning but Coast Union scored twice in the bottom of the inning to take a 2-1 lead.
However, Lutheran scored two runs each in the second and third innings and one in the fourth to retake the lead.
Coast Union had a great opportunity to tie the score in the sixth. But with runners at second and third and one out, Hendren struck out the next two batters.
