CLU Sprinter Reaches NAIA Final

Darren Bernard, a Cal Lutheran senior, qualified Friday for tonight’s 400-meter final in the NAIA track and field championships at Tarleton State University in Stephenville, Tex.
Bernard clocked 47.60 seconds in winning a preliminary heat Thursday and qualified for the final with a 47.38 runner-up finish in his semifinal heat.
In the 1,500, Cal Lutheran junior Heidi Peterson was fifth in her heat with a time of 4:52.59. The top 12 qualified for the final, but Peterson’s time placed her 15th overall.
Cal Lutheran junior Pam Beaver finished 15th in the heptathlon with 3,814 points after tearing a hamstring Thursday on the first day of competition.
