A toddler playing with a lighter started a fire Tuesday that destroyed the bedroom of a Port Hueneme home, a Ventura County Fire Department spokeswoman said.
The blaze began at 2:48 p.m. when the unidentified 2-year-old set a bed on fire in the 600 block of East Joyce Drive, the official said.
Homeowner Rena Bishop and a baby-sitter were home with the child when the fire broke out. All three escaped without injuries.
The fire caused an estimated $20,000 in damage to the home and its contents.
