Council Picks Holmes as Mayor

The Manhattan Beach City Council elected veteran Councilman C.R. (Bob) Holmes mayor Tuesday, replacing outgoing Mayor Steve Barnes. Councilman Dan Stern, the newest member of the council, was named mayor pro tem.
Mayors serve nine-month terms, and the ceremonial office is rotated among council members.
Holmes was first elected to the council in 1980 and has been mayor two previous times. Stern was elected last year.
