Hawthorne High outfielder Tarrik Brock, who was scheduled to report today to the Detroit Tigers’ rookie league club in Bristol, Tenn., has been named to the All-Southern Section 5-A Division baseball team by the First Interstate Bank-Amateur Athletic Foundation board of sportswriters.
Brock was a second-round draft pick of the Tigers and signed a six-figure contract with the team two weeks ago.
The 6-foot-3, 170-pound Brock was named to the 5-A Division second team after a senior season in which he batted .405 and led Hawthorne with 29 runs scored, four triples and 12 stolen bases.
Senior outfielder Dante Powell, of division champion Millikan of Long Beach, was named 5-A Player of the Year.
