4 Area Players Chosen to 5-A Baseball Team

Four area players were selected to the 5-A Division All-Southern Section first team, the Amateur Athletic Foundation announced.
Utility player Brian Vasey of Simi Valley, who batted .460 and boasted a 10-2 record with a 2.09 earned-run average, joined teammate Aaron Fischer, who batted .473, on the first team. Vasey was The Times’ Ventura County pitcher of the year.
Also selected to the team were Thousand Oaks senior infielder Ryan Kritscher, who batted .444, and Channel Islands outfielder Jacob Cruz, a senior who batted .443.
Selected to the second team were three Foothill League pitchers: Burroughs’ Mike Rossiter, a senior right-hander with a 1.62 ERA; Burbank’s Jason Chandler, a senior with a 9-1 record and an 0.90 ERA; and Hart’s R.J. Simone, a senior with a 9-1 record and a 2.17 ERA. Royal infielder Dave Landaker also was a second-team pick.
Four area players were third-team selections: junior pitcher Angel Aragon of Channel Islands, senior catcher Andy Saltsman of Crescenta Valley, senior infielder Mike Muncy of Camarillo, and sophomore outfielder Kevin Nykoluk of Simi Valley.
